Faculty and Staff


Most of the teaching faculty in BVDU College of Architecture has obtained a postgraduate degree and some have doctoral degrees. Many of the faculty members are actively practicing in the field of built environment – architecture, urban design, planning and sustainability. The College also invites eminent practitioners, industry experts and allied professionals as visiting faculty and organises guest lectures.

The College frequently conducts faculty development programmes and encourages attendance in programmes conducted by NIASA, Council of Architecture and other organisations. The college has a very strong social outreach program and interaction with industry as evident from several collaborative activities it does with the local Municipal Corporation, energy authorities, and research activities with universities such as Queens University (Canada).

Bajarang H Sutar, Professor, Principal

Bajarang H Sutar, Professor, Principal

He has practiced as an architect and planner on many projects. Some of his projects include development plan of Satara City, and Wai City, several housing projects in Pune, and Mumbai, and campus plan of College of Engineering at Sambhave – Mulshi district Pune. He is also a panel architect of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha Satara. He is currently working on a school and junior college at Karajgaon, Ahamadnagar.

His research interests include sustainable transport planning, housing for economical weaker section, land management and real estate, and use of natural resources in architectural design and planning. He teaches building technology, architectural Design, research in architecture and allied areas.

He has completed Ph.D. Masters in (Town & Country Planning) from Government College of Engineering, Pune, India); M. Arch. from YCMOU, Nasik., and Government Diploma in Architecture, from Mumbai University.

Archana V Gaikwad, Professor

Archana V Gaikwad, Professor

She has worked on various residential projects in Kolhapur and Solapur. She prepared report on Structure and present status of UCD, Pune for Butterflies, Delhi and recently worked as a consultant for Disaster Management plan for Sangli, Miraj and Kupwad Municipal Corporation.

Her research interests are in environmental design. She has studied M. Tech. (Environmental Planning) from CEPT, and B. Arch. from Shivaji University.

Ashwini S Pethe, Professor

Ashwini S Pethe, Professor

Dr. Ashwini Pethe works as a Professor and is associated with BVDUCOA since past 20 years. She has completed her PhD in the field of Cultural Landscapes from CEPT University, India. She has a Master’s Degree in Urban Design from CEPT University and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Pune University.

Her research interest is in understanding Sacred Geography of Kullu Valley in lower Himalayas and her work on architecture of mountainous rural regions is published by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture, India.

She is the Managing Director of Pune Biennale Foundation, a trustee of Janaseva Foundation, research scholar and a resource person for INTACH, and member of IIA, AESA, IIID, IUDI, BORI.

She is the recipient of INTACH Scholarship award, Anchor-Panasonic IIID National Award and 2017 Asian Townscape Award, UN Habitat in 2017.

Mukta Latkar-Talwalkar, Professor

She teaches various subjects including History of Architecture (Indian), Building Construction, Planning Design, and Architectural Design. She has a graduate degree Town and Country Planning (ME T&CP), from Government College of Engineering, University of Pune), and bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Sir JJ College of Architecture, University of Mumbai). She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Environment Education from BVIEER, (Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Pune), and Masters in Indology from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Before joining academics she worked as an architect and planner for Stein, Doshi & Bhalla (on projects for Escorts Ltd.); V.S Naik & Associates (Interior, residential projects); V.S Apte (Residential, School Projects); AV Patil (Residential Projects); Kirloskar consultants Ltd. (on Urban Planning Assignments); and SB Thorat & Partners (on residential, hospital, commercial, school, poultry projects)".

Her research interest is in Solar Passive Architecture in Nature. She teaches Building Services, Architectural Design, Creative Art, Craft and Design, Building Climatology, Research Project, and has also guided several thesis students. She has a ME (Town & Country Planning) from University of Poona; and B. Arch. from Panjab University.

Sujata S Patil, Associate Professor

She works on residential, commercial and institutional projects, in Pune and Sangli districts. Her research interest include Acoustical Environment in Educational Building and Energy Efficiency in Building. She has presented a paper on ‘Efficient Energy Management in Domestic Building Leading Towards Healthy City’ in a conference on Healthy Cities Perspective of Asian Concerns, organized by B.N. College of Architecture, Pune.

She has graduated with a M. Arch. in Sustainable Architecture from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, and a B. Arch. from Shivaji University. She teaches "Architectural Design, Architectural Drawing and Graphics, Building Services, Quantity Surveying and Specification Writing, Sustainable Building Design Principles, Building Construction, and has guided thesis students.

Sanjay N Kumbhare, Associate Professor

He has completed nearly 400 projects mostly residential. He has worked abroad as Chief Architect and still works as a consultant architect in UAE. His research interest is in the area of architectural practice. He teaches Architectural Design, Building Construction, Professional practice, Management elective, Services, Quantity surveying and specifications and has guided several thesis students. He has a graduate degree in M. Arch. (Construction Management) and a bachelor’s degree in Architecture.

Sushama Dhepe, Associate Professor

She has been practicing as an architect and interior designer since 2001 and is also a government approved valuer. She has published papers on architectural education and women in architecture.

She is pursuing Ph.D. research in integrating Traditional Architecture into today’s Built Environment. She has graduated with a M. Arch. in Architectural Education from Nagpur University and B. Arch. from Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

She teaches subjects such as Building Construction and Material, Architectural Design, Research Projects, Building services, Graphics, Computer Application, Working Drawing, Estimation and Costing.

Sudarshan S Bodhankar, Associate Professor

Sudarshan S Bodhankar, Associate Professor

Work experience in office in Pune under different architectural firms. After completing M-Arch (Sustainable Architecture) shifted into full time academic profession in Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai and currently at Pune. He has a diploma in civil engineering, B. Arch. from University of Pune, and an M. Arch. in Sustainable Architecture from BVDU.

He teaches Surveying leveling, climatology, building services, construction, Interior design etc. He has guided B-Arch final year thesis projects. He is associated with various bodies such as IIA, IIID and with other universities as examiner.

She worked as an architect and interior designer in Aurangabad before joining academics. Her research interest is in solid waste management. She teaches Building Construction and Materials, Architectural Drawing and Graphics, Building Services, Creativity and Communication, Theory of Design, and Architectural Design. She has graduate degree in M. Arch. in Environment Architecture from University of Pune and B. Arch. from Dr. Babasaheb Marathwada University.

Sunil Terdalkar, Assistant Professor

Prior to joining BVDUCOA, he has worked on various types of architecture, historic preservation, planning, urban design and transportation projects, of scales ranging from street intersections, city blocks to city regions. He has also worked on various policy and strategic development initiatives to guide street design, efficient transport networks and neighborhood redevelopment.

His research interests are: Urban design - Streetscapes, neighborhood redevelopment, place making; Transportation - Active transport, Integrated Multi-modal Transport. He is a graduate of College of DAAP, University of Cincinnati, Ohio (MCP – Urban Design) and Shivaji University, Kolhapur (B. Arch.).

Seema Thippeswamy, Assistant Professor

Before being an academician, she worked as an Assistant Architect for Anupama Reddy & Associates, Koramangala, Bangalore (on Residential & Interior projects); as an Architect for A K Bhat Architect, Jaynagar, Bangalore (on Residential); as an Architect for Ankur Associates, Pune (on Residential/Commercial projects); as an Environmentalist Eco solutions, Pune (on IGBC and GRIHA certification for Residential & commercial projects)

Her research interest is in Thermal Comfort & Day lighting for occupants in learning environment. She teaches Building Services, Architectural Design, Building Construction & Materials, Advance Building Services, Quantity Surveying and Specification, Building Climatology and has also guided several thesis students. She has an M Arch (Environmental Architecture) from Savitribai Phule Pune University and B. Arch from Visveswaraiah Technological University.

She has studied B.Arch (Shivaji University), M.Arch (Environmental Architecture, (Pune University), and Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental and Sustainable Development (IGNOU).

She has worked as an architect with Vision Associates on resorts and residential apartments and has academic experience of more than 5 years. She teaches Sustainable design Studio, Urban & Rural lab & environmental issues, Sustainable materials and Technology, Climate responsive architecture and has also guided several thesis students.

Her research interest is in post occupancy behavior and analysis of climate responsible buildings and Light pollution in urban areas.

    Viraj has worked with eminent professionals in Mumbai and Pune and has successfully handled several residential & commercial projects ranging from a single building to townships. He has also worked in the construction industry and dealt with multiple consultants associated. In his own practice he has completed various architectural projects and executed multiple turnkey interior & landscape projects.

    He believes in teaching the students current technologies yet incorporating the traditional methods, to help them understand the rapidly developing technologies and computer aided services and their need in today’s day-to-day upgrading system. Currently he teaches Building Technology and Materials, Working Drawings, Architectural Design.

  5. Kshama Hippergekar, Assistant Professor

    She Completed Bachelors in Architecture from Pune University in 2006. She worked with Christopher Benninger for 2 years on projects like Suzlon-One earth, BSF headquarters Chakur, IIM Calcutta. She runs her own Design Studio in Pune since 2010 in the name of M/s Kshama & Associates and majorly involved in rural development projects like Low Cost Housing for Sugarcane Industry labours, Cost Efficient group housing for MIG and others. Her interest in Building Technology and the excellence in design field has helped her travel widely for work and has a wide array of projects completed by the studio.Interiors,landscape and architecture has been the main core of practice of 9years. She has also successfully completed many luxury residences in Aamby valley Lonavala and other places.

    She is also a technical head for many companies dealing with Steel, Aluminium, Prefab, GRC, FRP for their products and projects.

    Alongwith the academics and other activities her software skills are incomparable and has been actively involved in development and enhancement of softwares skills.

    She teaches Building Technology and Creativity and communication and has been guide and mentor to many students across city.

    Before joining academics she has worked on various residential projects with Akruti Consultants. She has also worked in collaboration with ITDP Pune and Pune Smart City for Urban Design projects.

    She has completed M. Arch. in Urban Design from Pune University and B. Arch. from Bharati Vidyapeeth University Pune.
